Meena Khadikar is an Indian playback singer and composer who mainly worked in two languages Marathi and Hindi. She is the sister of famous Indian singers Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar and Hridaynath Mangeshkar. Khadikar is the eldest daughter of Pt. Deenanath Mangeshkar who is well known a Natya Sangeet musician, Hindustani classical vocalist and Marathi theatre actor.
Khadikar is best known for composing music for the Marathi music industry and she also composed popular kids songs. Her songs are also recorded in Bengali and Gujarati. She sang a song ” Duniya Mein Hum Aye Hain Toh ” with Lata Mandeshkar and Usha. Khadikar performed the song ” Aapne Chheen Liya Dil ” with Muhammad Rafi in the film Farmaish.
Meena Mangeshkar was born on 7 September, 1931 (age= 91 years as 2022) at Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. She belongs to a famous Mangeshkar family (a family of singers ). Her father name is Deenanath Mangeshkar and Shevanti Mangeshkar is her mother. She has also two children Yagosh and Rachana who both are interested in singing and they also sang some nursery rhymes. Most importantly, she did not get any formal education.
Career & Discography
At the age of 22 years she began her career with the Hindi song ” Duniya Mein Hum Aye Hain Toh “ in 1953 which she sang with her sisters Lata Mangeshkar and Usha Mageshkar. Later she made a duet with Indian famous singer Muhammad Rafi ” Aaapne Chheen Liya Dil ” in the Hindi film Farmaish. She made playback singing for many Hindi songs like; ” Hai Mausam Yeh Mastana “, ” Dil Churana ” and ” Arey Jao Ri Piya Ko Bulao “.
Meena also composed the songs for Marathi film and Music Industry. Her famous compositions in Marathi language are, ” Yeh Havali Ghe Priyasakhaya Bhagavanta ” and ” Bavarle Mi Bavarle”. In her 48 years career from 1952 to 2000, Khadikar not only sang songs in Hindi and Marathi, she also composed songs for kids which were also sung by her children Yogesh and Rachna.
