When it comes to buying or putting in businesses that would produce regular income, there are plenty of showy teachers running attractive hustles. It’s easy to fall for the buzz, but in many cases these “opportunities” are full of hidden bear traps.
Codie Sanchez takes a different method. Codie’s built her name – and the riches that now goes with it — supporting unglamorous businesses like trailer parks, laundromats, etc., which makes her one of the most unusual voices in the entrepreneurial world. The 37-year old is from Arizona, and she’s keen to underline that she came from a middle-class family that valued basic learning about business.
Codie began her profession working as what she calls a “conflict” journalist, covering subjects including human trafficking, drug theft and border-related concerns for the Arizona Republic. Her potential was obvious early on as Sanchez received a Robert F. Kennedy writing prize, and obtained a grant from the Howard Buffett Foundation.
From there, she made a hard right into the world of banking, working for the likes of Vanguard, Goldman Sachs and State Street. Her turn wasn’t totally to the right, however. Sanchez became the head of Latin-American assets for First Trust, and worked as a partner at Entourage Effect Capital, which was a big investor in the growing weed business.
Sanchez picked up lots of smart financial ideas, of course, but Codie was also aware she was becoming worn out working long hours. As a result she started engaging in what she called “boring businesses,” with a focus on good cash flow, and that turned out to be her sweet spot.

It was probably just a matter of time before Sanchez ended up founding her own firm, which fittingly enough was named Unconventional Acquisition. She built the firm to be a “educational provider” that helps the public learn how to purchase small enterprises.
Sanchez developed “Contrarian Thinking”, a media firm that explores about companies and trends while delivering what she terms a “how-to playbook on ways to cash flow.” Sharing the tactics she utilized to create a $15 million fortune. Codie presently offers a company purchase course for $2,000 and group membership for $10,000! Despite the price tag, she claims to have a $50 million collection of “boring” firms, so she can back up anything.
The female developer also invests in other firms. According to Crunchbase, she has made 14 investments in companies including Hone Health, Basket, beehiiv and SkyFi.
Sanchez has taken a little comedic approach to her personal life, too, referring to her divorce as one of the most costly decisions she’s ever made that came with a cost of $2.4 million.
She’s married to her husband, Daniel, who is a Navy SEAL. He just departed the nation to serve an 8-month deployment, but the marriage looks to be happy, stable and prosperous, and they surely do look to have a bright future together.
